103rd Aero Squadron USAS
CO: US103_Hunter
I’ve selected the 103rd Aero Squadron for several reasons. First, they are the direct descendant of the Lafayette Escadrille. When the Lafayette Escadrille was disbanded, the American personnel were transferred to the 103rd. This gives the squadron an opportunity to fly earlier war scenarios and still have a historic mount and perspective. Second, the 103rd was the first American squadron to the front and was flying under French command before being moved into the US 2nd and then 3rd Pursuit Group, this gives the 103rd more historic opportunity as well. Thirdly, the 103rd was not a high profile unit like those in the 1st Pursuit group, (94th, 27th, 95th, 147th) but it provided something like 3 out of 4 group commanders and 12 squadron commanders. Last, but not least is that the 103rd has that great Indian Head insignia that looks pretty cool on all our planes.
